Background to Oakwood Farm

Oakwood Farm comprises 13.8 hectares (34 acres) of lower greensand 3 miles north of the South Downs with panoramic views over the Downs to the south and east, and the Sussex Weald to the east and north. Situated half a mile to the east of the attractive village of West Chiltington, near Pulborough, West Sussex the farm was established from scratch in 1986.

We run a flock of home-bred ewes crossed to a Southdown ram. Our lambing percentage is about 240% - most ewes having twins, with some having triplets or even quads. We also take a crop of hay from the land each year and let summer grazing to a neighbouring dairy farmer.

View looking towards Chanctonbury Ring which is situated on the South Downs between Washington and Steyning and is clearly visible from the farm.
