Such might have been the report in the local paper, had there been one.
It would be interesting to know what the daughter of a small farmer wore to her wedding in 1625 - the year of King Charles's accession.
Stephen Ward's younger son, (my 7 times Great Grandfather),EDWARD married Ann Allen 12 years later. They farmed at Brockton and Acton Trussell and had 7 children-
Ann 1638 - died young
Thomas 1639, 7 children, farmed at Castle Lodge
Edward 1641, farmed Brockton & Acton Trussell
Abraham 1643, 6 children, registered by himself only - no mention of wife.farmed at Hydefield, Castle Church (Abraham's son, another Abraham, married Sarah Cruchley 1714, Grandson,Abraham married Margaret Tunniclife 1737 and Great grandson Abraham married Mary Hicken 1761 - all these Abrahams with their wives are buried in Baswich Churchyard with " of Highfields " on their toombstones )
Stephen 1645, farmed at Berkswich
FRANCIS 1648 married Alice Fallows 4 children farmed Colwich
Ann 1651
FRANCIS married Alice Fallows in Lichfield Cathedral, as he was the fifth son of a yeoman farmer, he did rather well for himself. (Alice was 32 at the time so might have been a bit desprate). He held land on 99 year leases from Sir Charles Wolseley of Colwich, they had 4 children as follows.
Ann 1679 - 1683
Francis 1681 - 1759. He inherited the leases on his father's death in 1725, but otherwise is not mentioned in the Parish registers except for his birth and deat, however notes on the leases indicate that he had a son (another Francis), who took over the leases until disappearing into the sand in the late 18th century.
STEPHEN 1684 - 1733, married Marey Wilcox 1704, inherited farms from his uncles Edward and Stephen.
Alice 1685 - 1687
